Dr. Peter Mugo is a Research Fellow in the Health Policy and Systems Department. He is leading the QuEST E-cohort work in Kenya. He has over 14 years of experience in health research, spanning public health, epidemiology, clinical trials, and implementation science. His work focuses on identification, development, and evaluation of prevention, treatment and service delivery innovations in the private and public sectors. He has been leading several projects in this area, including an evaluation of HIV self-testing and pre-exposure prophylaxis in the pharmacy sector, a feasibility study of pharmacy-based COVID-19 testing, and development of strategies for improving implementation of fixed-dose combination treatments for cardiovascular disease. His work on HIV prevention is supported by an internationally competitive Wellcome Trust (UK) fellowship. Before the fellowship, he was involved in recruitment and maintenance of cohorts of individuals at high risk of HIV infection in preparation for HIV prevention and treatment trials.
Dr Mugo is on the Editorial Boards of PLOS One and the Pharmaceutical Journal of Kenya, and a member of the UKRI International Development Peer Review College. He has a Bachelor of Pharmacy degree, a Master’s in clinical trials, and a PhD in public health.
